Postcard From NYC: Aisling Keogh, Digital Irish

I’m the Marketing and Business Development Director for IrishCentral.com, based in New York City.

IrishCentral.com is the largest Irish site in North America, with 3.5 million monthly unique visitors: we cater to the Irish-American market and focus on Irish news, culture and heritage. I have been in NYC for 5 years, since moving a week after I graduated from the Institute of Art, Design and Technology with my degree in Business and Arts Management. Outside of my day job, I help to run a technology non-profit organization called Digital Irish with a few other ex-pats here in the city.

Digital Irish is a non-profit community, founded in 2013 by Feargall Kenny that aims to promote Irish startups and help them expand operations into North America by providing a soft landing in NYC. We are folks involved in social media, mobile, online advertising, digital agencies, search, analytics, video, e-commerce or other online-centric B2C or B2B plays. We host regular fast-pitch meetup events, networking opportunities, industry expert talks, professional introductions, and missions with other startup support groups in New York.

Every year, thousands of talented Irish graduates seek employment in the USA on a one-year J1 visa. We recognized the difficulty graduates face trying to find work in the absence of a network. Our new Career Development Program aims to fill that void – we will introduce Irish graduates to our participating companies. We have partnered with some amazing tech companies and hope to start filling these positions by September. We’ve had amazing support from the likes of BMK & Associates (Immigration), TriNet (HR), OnePageCRM (Customer Relationship Management), WeWork (event hosting and shared office space) as well as Rooney PC Business Attorneys.

Then there are the startups themselves: Digital Irish have so many great members that are doing amazing work in NYC right now including Oisin Hanrahan at Handy, Pat Phelan at Trustev, Illann Power at Dublin Distillers, Gareth Cuddy at Vearsa, Susan O’Brien at Smigin, Paul Quigley at NewsWhip and Tadhg O’Toole at LikeCharity amongst others… There’s certainly no shortage of entrepreneurial spirit and hard work here.

Please get in touch if you are a company visiting NYC, or if you want to learn more about what we do – I’m Aisling@digitalirish.com.
